SB 865 still awaiting action by State House

With one week left of session, ACEC members need to take action! - 12/5/2008

Senate Bill 865, which would revise the statute of limitations for bringing action against an architect or professional engineer from 6 to 2 years, is still awaiting action on the House floor as this year's legislative session nears an end.

The bill was not voted on during this past weeks session. ACEC is pushing hard for a vote during next week's session. The Legislature will likely only be in session for one more week. If we do not get a vote on the House floor, the bill will die at the end of the session.

If you have not done so, please contact your House representative, and encourage him/her to contact House Speaker Andy Dillon to allow the bill a vote on the House Floor.

Passage of Senate Bill 865 will:
   - Protect the design industry from stale claims
   - Reduce the costs to the engineering community associated with increased risks
   - Put Michigan's statute in line with other states throughout the country
   - Encourage firms to locate and practice in Michigan
