Statute of Limitations Bills set for Hearing on March 31

Senate Bill 35 seeks to put Michigan in line with other states regarding timeliness of malpractice claims against engineers - 3/27/2009

During the last legislative session, our statute of limitations bill was stalled on the House floor in the lame duck session after getting  approval by the Senate. The Architects & Engineers Legislative Committee (AELC) wasted no time in making this legislation the number one priority for the new legislative session.

On January 27, 2009, less than 2 weeks into the session, Senator Sanborn introduced Senate Bill 35.

On March 31, the Senate Judiciary Committee is planning to hear testimony on the bill. ACEC has already lined up individuals to testify in support of the bill, which would return the statute of limitations to 2 years to file a malpractice claim against an engineer (currently 6 years).

On March 17, over 125 Architects and Engineers traveled to Lansing for "Legislative Day" to meet with their legislators and encourage their support of Senate Bill 35 and other issues important to the professions.

ACEC members are urged to contact their Senators and urge them to support this important legislation.
