AELC Legislative Day a Success
Engineers and architects have record number of legislative meetings -

The Annual AELC Legislative Day was held on March 17 and a sea of green descended on the State Capitol. Over 120 engineers and architects took advantage of this event to make face to face contact with their representatives and senators.
This year, a record number of visits were scheduled with lawmakers: 102 of the 148 legislators met with constituents. Many legislators also took advantage of traditional Irish fare during a luncheon held in downtown Lansing at the new Troppo’s restaurant.
The morning began with a briefing on current legislative priorities for the 3 groups by AELC lobbyist Melissa Yutzey of Kelley Cawthorne. Meetings were scheduled in the morning with members of the House while guest speaker Glen LeRoy discussed “Positioning Michigan in an Era of Global Climate Change”. J. Peter Lark, General Manager of the Lansing Board of Water & Light, shared his insights on renewable energy initiatives before lunch. Visits with Senators took place in the afternoon and House Fiscal Agency Director Mitch Dean provided an overview of the current Michigan state budget.
Many thanks to those who participated in this worthwhile event. One on one contact with legislators is a critical component in educating them on issues important to the A/E professions.
