Over 100 Engineers & Architects Visit Legislators

Members of ACEC, AIA and MSPE drove to Lansing on April 15 to participate in 13th Annual Legislative Day - 4/18/2008

100+ engineers and architects came to Lansing on April 15 to have face time with their legislators during the Annual Architects & Engineers Legislative Committee (AELC) Legislative Day. AELC Chairman Andy McCune of Wade Trim kicked off the day by explaining the importance of being active in the legislative process to attendees. A legislative briefing followed, by AELC legislative counsel Melissa Yutzey  and Dennis Cawthorne (Kelley-Cawthorne), on key issues affecting the A/E industry: Statute of Limitations, Increased Penalties, Certificate of Merit and Licensure of Interior Designers. ACEC Executive Director Ron Brenke followed the briefing with the presentation of the first ACEC Legislator of the Year Award to Senator Alan Sanborn (R-Richmond), a consistent supporter of ACEC.

After constituents paid visits to their State Representatives in the morning, a luncheon was held at noon with all legislators welcome to attend. Afternoon appointments were held with State Senators, a change in this year's event format which allowed attendees greater access to their legislators.

Our thanks to the members who support this event both by their attendance and by their contributions to the Consulting Engineers Political Action Committee (CEPAC).
